The ministry plans to complete 42 projects totalling 13 000 km by 2012, of which 5 000 km are designed for 250 km/h operation and 8 000 km for 350 km/h.last_img read more

Tekeze Dam: Powering Africa

first_imgAt a cost of US$360 million, at 185 metres, the dam-developed and built by the state-owned Chinese National Water Resources and Hydropower Engineering Corporation – now known as Sinohydro – is the largest of its kind in Africa and produces over 300 MW of electricity. In addition to power generation, the Tekeze dam enables regulation of river flow, allowing downstream communities year-round access to the water supply. Tekeze Dam -Ethiopia (Picture Courtesy -Pinterest) The economic relationship between China and Ethiopia has become stronger through the years. Chinese contracts in construction, electricity and telecommunication sectors show a steady rise in development in Ethiopia over the last few years. This project was completed in 2009 – the first of its kind by China in Ethiopia. The dam is a double curvature concrete arch dam which was designed to minimise the amount of concrete used, creating a reservoir 70 kilometres in length. An underground powerhouse, containing four 75 MW Francis Turbines, is located approximately 500 metres downstream of the dam and fed by a 75-metre-high intake structure connected by a 500-metre-long concrete-lined power tunnel. A 230 kV double-circuit transmission line 105 kilometres long was constructed through mountainous terrain to connect to the Ethiopian national grid. Tekeze Dam is one such project that dates back to 1995, when the Ethiopian Ministry of Water Resources conducted a study identifying this area as one of two preferred dam sites on the Tekeze River amenable to hydropower development. last_img read more

Plastimo and Sigfox to Provide Location Services to Improve Safety at Sea

first_imgPlastimo, an international player in the boating industry and Sigfox, the world’s leading IoT service provider & first global 0G network operator, have joined forces to offer total geolocation coverage across all oceans from 2020. The new service will be supported by data from the ELO nano-satellite constellation, operated by Eutelsat, Sigfox’s partner. With more than 50 years of industrial expertise in the manufacture and design of safety equipment for boating consumers and professionals, Plastimo is constantly searching for high-performance and innovative solutions. Plastimo turned to Sigfox’s 0G network to improve and broaden the application of digital technologies integrated into its safety equipment, with a specific requirement to quickly and reliably locate seafarers in the ocean.Today, Sigfox is able to meet the demand for both innovative and affordable connectivity solutions. Based on Sigfox technology, Plastimo is able to differentiate its products for general consumers, while also developing high-end equipment for increasingly demanding professional markets. For Plastimo, it is important to invest in technology and bring to market exclusive products, which meet the needs of all sailors when it comes to safety at sea.By partnering with Sigfox, Plastimo will also benefit from the future ELO nanosatellite constellation, deployed and operated by Eutelsat. From 2020, the constellation will support Sigfox’s connectivity services, providing global coverage across all seas and oceans. Existing constellations do not offer this geolocation functionality at an affordable price for the boating market, while ELO will soon support the location of a person lost at sea or shipwrecked in a Plastimo life raft or wearing a Plastimo life jacket, at a reasonable price. One of the major advantages of the ELO constellation is that it uses the Sigfox protocol already available in more than 65 countries. The life jackets produced by Plastimo will be supported by either Sigfox’s terrestrial network or its satellite network. Thus, life jackets can be located several tens of kilometers from the coasts of the many countries already covered by the Sigfox terrestrial network, before the ELO constellation is available. The first two nanosatellites will be operational in 2020.Future Plastimo life jackets equipped with Sigfox satellite connectivity will be locatable across all oceans. The vests will be as just as comfortable and efficient as other Plastimo designs, and the new connectivity will be simple to use and does not require heavy and bulky batteries to maintain power.last_img read more

first_imgilustrasi pelecehan seksual. Tutupnya.Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Like this:Like Loading… Relatedlast_img read more

POM Melonas are new men’s champions

first_imgSoftball BY FRANKIY KAPIN It was an all Port Moresby affair in the 43rd National Softball titles in Lae that ended yesterday with Port Moresby Melonas crowned the new men’s champions and Port Moresby Gold, the women’s champion. Port Moresby Melonas came from behind yet surprisingly at the last and seventh inning for a one point win of 3-2 runs over smaller brothers, the Port Moresby Kakanas who lost the championships tag they won last year. In the women’s grand final, winning their 10th national women’s title was too easy for the Port Moresby Gold who walked all over a youthful Madang side with no mercy sending them packing before reaching the fifth inning. At the bottom of the fourth inning from the ruled book seven inning grand final match, Madang were no match for the golden stripes of Port Moresby who were unable to score a single run and were a sitting duck at 13-nil for the match to be prematurely called off and the win awarded to Port Moresby Gold. Retaining their title and the 10th national women’s title, Port Moresby Gold captain Stephanie Manning said it has been a good run this year with a mixture of young and upcoming players as well as veterans. Meanwhile, Port Moresby Melonas captain Paul Bogan said it was a hard game, especially coming scoreless from behind to strip the men’s title from their brothers. There were no runs scored at the bottom of the second inning with both sides remaining scoreless in a squarely fought field and batting perspective. Kakanas broke the silence at the bottom of the third inning after Benard ToAlbert and Kojack Wesley crossed the home plate to lead 2-0. The next three innings to the bottom of the sixth inning was desperation for Melonas to register points yet to no avail as they continued to trail 2-nil to Kakanas. However, batting at the top of the seventh and last inning proved a miracle for Melonas as Mika Zale, Paul Bogan and Adrian Chan found the home plate for the one-point win (3-2) after three downs. The last batting at the bottom of the seventh inning just didn’t work out for Kakanas despite having men on bases to make it home as luck ran out of them.last_img read more

Caryville looks at ordinance for bed and breakfast business

first_imgCARYVILLE, TN (WLAF) – The topic of the Air BNB(bed and breakfast short term rental) continued for its third month at last night’s Town of Caryville Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting. Concerned neighbors first approached the board about a neighboring house in a subdivision being utilized as an Air BNB asking whether it was legal or not.    Since that time, the town has been working on an ordinance pertaining to the issue. Last night, the planning commission brought questions before the board. Occupancy appeared to be unclear but after some discussion it was decided that three people would be allowed per bedroom and each Air BNB would pay a $50 license fee. The ordinance should be ready for its first reading at the September board meeting.Alderman Eric Jones voiced his concern of the lack of reports from codes enforcement. “The other departments submit monthly reports, we need to know what they’re doing,” continued Jones.  “The reports had been requested from the department, but we haven’t received anything yet,” Alderman Lloyd Lawson said. The town has been asked to contribute to two upcoming festivals. The first festival was Louie Bluie.  Caryville has donated $3,000 the previous two years and decided to donate the same to this year’s festival. The Big Creek ATV Festival which is held in LaFollette has received a yearly donation from the board. But this year, Jones made a motion that the town not contribute to the festival with Lawson seconding the motion. Jones said he felt like the town should have a seat on the festival committee and have a voice.Ordinance 2019-04 amending the annual operating budget for 2018-19, Ordinance 2019-05 amending the annual operating budget for 2018-19 for the state street aid fund were approved.  Mayor Robert Stooksbury explained this was just housekeeping for the budget.Daniel Garrett was hired as a full-time police officer. He started with the department in April and has completed his probationary period. Since April he answered 469 calls and made approximately 90-percent of the drug arrests, according to Chief Brian Keeton.Stooksbury updated the board on the installation of lights at Caryville. The town signed a contract last month with the safe routes to school, “work should begin soon” said Stooksbury. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 08/13/2019-6AM)Share this:FacebookTwitterlast_img read more
